I do admire that you have created a format that can be done collectively or individually - led by anyone. It isn't dependent on your personality, but rather it really allows the game and the Holy Spirit to take center stage.

I am a former Chair of Church Multiplication for the Regional Synod of Mid-Atlantics (RCA). I worked for 26 years at the funding end of church planting and church planter assessment. The Mid-Atlantics has a high cost of living ($90,000 in 2,000). Our denomination started with a funding of about $30,000. It got worse not better. By the end, the denomination was giving a one-time grant of $500 to Fresh Expressions of Church. Every planter was told that they needed to be co-vocational. Yet they were still being assessed for credentials that included seminary training. I desperately started pointing our planters to the Lilly Foundation.

We recently voted to dissolve the Regional Synod of Mid-Atlantics. Now the more local organizations of elders are responsible for the vision of Fresh Expressions. I have heard pastors who transferred their ordination from UMC to us say that in five years all ministries will be self- funded. I think they are correct.

I agree with Nathan that you do not need to go to seminary and get credentials to do this ministry. If anyone tells you that you must, make them fund your education. Do not go into debt for the credentials. May God bless you and make you a blessing.
